  10.      Hello, and welcome to Prototyper. This is a demonstration version of my
  11. new CAD system and it's aim is to show you how easy vero board designing can be
  12. made with the use of this software, some functions are not included with this
  13. version.

  15.      Prototyper is due to be released for  the end of January 92 and will
  16. cost just £12.00 + 40p postage and packing. If however you wish to confirm
  17. release date before placing your order please do so, but please include a

  31. perfectly compatible with all Amigas, but I do plan to cater for both
  32. workbenches. WILL YOU ALSO LET ME KNOW WHICH PD LIBRARY YOU OBTAINED THIS

  35. An Important Accessory!
  36. =======================

  38.      I feel the Custom  Library Creator is a necessary program to have with
  39. both E-CAD and Prototyper as I can not possibly include every symbol/package
  40. on a library  disk, new packages are dreamed of by the minute so the library
  41. creator gives you infinite coverage of all things electrical and indeed
  42. mechanical if you wish.

  59.      Prototyper is a CAD program specially designed for 'Vero' strip board
  60. layouts. I assure you this program is a lot easier and quicker than design-
  61. ing layouts on paper and safer than taking pot luck and designing as you
  62. build. The program includes component package library, loadable custom 
  63. libraries facility, brushes, powerful zoom editor, all disk activities a printer dump function and much more. In fact as long as you have an Amiga
  64. and Prototyper you will never go back to conventional methods again!!

  66. A word about the component symbols
  67. ==================================
  68.  
  69.      The matrix snap shifts every 8 pixles and not every 16 pixles, this
  70. means its possible to place components with there legs in between holes.
  71. This has a memory saving advantage, a maximum of a 15 pixle boundary around
  72. symbols takes extra memory thus reduces the maximum number of symbols in a
  73. library. This 15 max pixle boundary is a must for 16 pixle snap as it is now
  74. I only have to use a maximum of 7 pixles. So I think I'm going to leave the
  75. matrix snap how it is.

  77. A Bug to Watch Out For!
  78. =======================

  80.      Some time you might find the mouse rubber disappears. This will be fixed
  81. for the full version.
  82.  
  83. Future Plans
  84. ============
  85.  
  86.      Both Electro CAD and the Custom Library Creator will be updated some
  87. time in the new year. Electro CAD is going to have the new Zoom Editor II
  88. installed, and no doubt some other add extras as well. If you become a
  89. registered Prototyper/Electro CAD user you will receive news letters
  90. notifying you of upgrades and new programs to be released.

  92. Prototyper Instructions
  93. =======================
  94.  
  95.      Always boot from this demo disk, Prototyper will NOT run from your 
  96. standard workbench disk. This is because the start up sequence is used to 
  97. place files on the RAM disk for use by the program. When you buy the full
  98. version a hard disk boot up program will be provided on the disk allowing
  99. you to use Prototyper from your hard disk if you have one.
  100.  
  101.      YOU ALSO NEED 1MB OF MEMORY FOR THIS PROGRAM.
  102.  
  103. The Icon Bar
  104. =============
  105.  
  106.      Once the program has loaded you will be presented with an Icon control
  107. bar. This is used to select library symbols in the normal clicking manner.
  108. Use the left mouse button to rotate the symbols one way and the right the
  109. other way. Once you have the desired symbol simply move the mouse pointer
  110. away from the icon bar and the pointer will change to that symbol.
  111.  
  112.      There are four other relevant icons on the bar these are.........
  113.  
  114. Pencil..... Used for drawing elastic type lines for connections etc.
  115. Shape Draw. Draws elastic boxes, circles and ellipse!
  116. Pen........ Used for labelling your components etc.
  117. Undo....... Tackles that last error in the usual way.
  118.  
  119. Holes
  120. =====
  121.  
  122.      The shape drawing device can be used to drill holes in the vero board
  123. its self. As you know holes are needed for screws etc, to drill a hole hold
  124. down one of the shift keys while drawing a circle only.
  125.  
  126. The Track Cutting Device
  127. ========================
  128.  
  129.      This can only be used whilst the mouse pointer is on the screen and is
  130. activated like this. Move the mouse pointer to the cut position hold down
  131. either shift key and click the left mouse button. The track cutter will also
  132. cut in between track holes as this is a favoured trick of mine to save
  133. space. If you should happen to find you have cut the wrong track then
  134. repeating the cutting operation over an already cut track will repair that
  135. track. The undo may also be used if the cut was the last operation. Do not
  136. use the rubber to remove cut tracks, although this will work the rubber will
  137. not update the cut track map. The peropus of the map will be reviled in the
  138. section on brushes.

  140. The Menu
  141. ========
  142.  
  143.      The menu bar can be activated when the mouse pointer is not over the 
  144. icon bar by holding the right mouse button in, the rest works in the normal
  145. manner. The menu bar is split into eight separate sections these being...
  146.  
  147.      Trashcan, Disk, Print, Colour, Shape, Symbol, Zoom and Preferences.

  149.      Here's an over lay of the various menu functions......

  151. Trashcan Menu
  152. =============
  153.  
  154. Rubber: This rubs out mistakes and replaces them with strip board tracks. 
  155.         This is used when the mistake has gone past the Undo stage.
  156.  
  157. Clear Board: Clears the current layout to start a fresh one.
  158.  
  159. Disk Menu
  160. =========
  161.  
  162. Load Board: Loads a Prototyper layout. When the file selector opens clicking
  163.             the right mouse button will display the available devices. 
  164.             There is a demo layout on this disk in the Examples folder on
  165.             this demo disk try loading it. I wish I could have supplied
  166.             more, I like to give value for money!
  167.  
  168. Save Board: Save a Prototyper layout by passing the file selector and saving
  169.             the file under the current name saves you time!
  170.  
  171. Save Board As: Save layout under your name specified with the file selector.
  172.  
  173. Erase Board: Deletes an unwanted layout.
  174.  
  175. Snap Shot: Saves just the view area only as a standard IFF file for
  176.            importing into DTP's art packages and Kind Words word processor!

  178. Note. All save functions are full version only.

  180. Print Menu
  181. ==========
  182.  
  183.      Provides you with a print-out so you may construct your board with 
  184. maximum ease. Full version only, ***uses workbench printer setup***
  185.  
  186.      The end result of this function will be similar to the lay-outs used
  187. in magazines such as Every Day Electronics and will include the solder side
  188. of the board as well.
  189.  
  190. Colour Menu
  191. ===========
  192.  
  193.      Changes the current drawing colour, symbols and brushes will be
  194.      re-coloured to the new colour.

  196. Shape Menu
  197. ==========

  199.      This changes the current shape to be drawn by the icon shape drawing
  200. device.

  202. Symbol Menu
  203. ===========

  205. Flip Horz: Flips a symbol/brush on the horizontal axis.
  206.  
  207. Flip Vert: Flips a symbol/brush on the vertical axis.
  208.  
  209. Vert/Horz: Rotate the symbol ONLY axis by 90 degrees.
  210.  
  211. Load Custom: Load a custom library which has been defined using the Custom
  212.              Library Creator. These libraries are exactly the same format as
  213.              the default library so they come with there own icon bar and
  214.              every other feature of the default library.
  215.  
  216. Exit Custom: Exit from a custom library and re-loads the default one. I 
  217.              regret there is no custom library on this disk to show you, 
  218.              but their just like the default lib, so I guess you could say
  219.              you've seen them!
  220.  
  221. Grab a Brush: Grabs a rectangular area of the screen which can be used as a
  222.               brush. The left mouse button copies the section of the screen
  223.               into a brush whilst the right lifts the section away from the
  224.               board so you can just move it up a bit giving you more room
  225.               instantly. I used to swear when I had to rub a big section out
  226.               because I'd forgotten something!
  227.  
  228.               Brushes are perhaps one of the most powerful features of
  229.               Prototyper, when a brush is grabbed the section of the cut
  230.               track map under that brush is copied into that brushes personal
  231.               map. When the brush is pasted on the board this map enable the
  232.               the tracks underneath to be cut automatically for you. This 
  233.               personal map will be saved with the brush if you chose to make
  234.               it part of your collection. The map will be flipped on ether
  235.               axis when the horizontal or vertical flip functions are used
  236.               with a brush. When a brush is lifted from the screen that 
  237.               section of the main map will be reset. In short the map keep
  238.               record of all your cut and uncut tracks.

  241. Load a Brush: Loads an Prototyper/Electro CAD brush from disk.

  243. Save a Brush: Saves the current brush in use. Full version only.

  245. Zoom Menu
  246. =========

  248. Zoom Editor II
  249. ==============

  251.      Prototyper includes a brand new powerful zoom editor . As always it is
  252. easy to use, icon driven and was a pig to program.
  253.  
  254. Icon 1: Provides a selection of different sized pixle blocks for free hand 
  255.         drawing. The X key provides an X axis lock and the Z does the Y
  256.         axis, so you don't necessarily need a steady hand. This function can
  257.         also be used to fill a shape in the current colour by holding down
  258.         the 'F' key as you click the mouse.
  259.  
  260. Icon 2: Lets you grab a brush in zoom mode. Functions the same as the menu
  261.         version.
  262.  
  263. Icons 3-4: Provide horizontal and vertical flip with brushes.
  264.  
  265. Icon 5: Elastic line drawing device.
  266.  
  267. Icon 6: Elastic box.
  268.  
  269. Icon 7: Elastic circle.
  270.  
  271. Icon 8: Elastic ellipse.

  273. Icon 9: Changes the current drawing colour.
  274.  
  275. Icon 10: The vital Undo.
  276.  
  277. Icon 11: Restores screen to normal display mode.

  279. Arrows: Scrolls other areas of the screen in to the zoom rectangle.

  281.      Now it so easy to define brushes inside Prototyper and Electro CAD is 
  282. getting this new function soon! Note Zoom Editor II is totally icon driven
  283. and the menu can not be accessed.

  285. Preferences Menu
  286. ================
  287.  
  288. Coordinates: Turns coordinates on/off.
  289.  
  290. Memory Check: Enables you to see the current memory available.
  291.  
  292. Matrix Snap: Turns the matrix snap on/off.
  293.  
  294. Auto Track Cut: Turns the automatic track cutting with brushes on/off.
  295.  
  296. Clean Up: This will add a slight perimeter to the area to be cleared when
  297.           the lift brush function is used with matrix snap on. This is to
  298.           can be used to clean up any tracks which are cut right on the edge
  299.           of the brush. Its probably a good idea for you to experiment with
  300.           this one. 
  301.  
  302. Set Font: Set the font style to be used with the icon pen.
  303.  
  304. Set RGB: Sets the colours palette.
  305.  
  306. Open WorkBench: Opens and closes the work bench for multi tasking Prototyper
  307.                 with other programs. To open the work bench Prototyper 
  308.                 checks to see if there's a suitable amount of memory to do
  309.                 this. Other programs will tend to run a bit slow with 
  310.                 Prototyper because the multi tasking wait has not yet been
  311.                 programmed in.

  313. Exit System: Exits Prototyper to the workbench.
  314.  
  315. Save Prefs: Save all the above preferences to the disk so Prototyper can
  316.             boot up how you last set it!
  317.  
  318. About: Last but not least the all important credits.
  319.

  321.      Well that just about ties up the instruction I'm now going to add the 
  322. rest of the finishing touches. Before I do I would like to say thank you
